Of the 2,213,363 men who served in the Union Army during the Civil War, 364,511 died in combat, or from injuries sustained in combat, disease, or other causes, and 281,881 were wounded. More than one out of every four Union soldiers was killed or wounded during the war; casualties in the Confederate Army were even worse - one in three southern soldiers were killed or wounded.

However, the Confederates suffered a considerably lower number of overall casualties than the Union, at roughly 260,000 total casualties to the Union's 360,000. This is by far the highest casualty ratio of any war in which America has been involved. By comparison, one out of every 16 American soldiers was killed or wounded in World War II, and one out of every 22 during the Vietnam War. In total, 620,000 soldiers died during the Civil War. There were 34 million Americans at that time, so 2 percent of the American population died in the war. In today's terms, this would be the equivalent of 5.9 million American men being killed in a war. The Union Army was composed of many different ethnic groups, including large numbers of immigrants. About 25 percent of the white people who served in the Union Army were foreign-born.

What can we learn from these statistics?

The United States never won a war by losing more soldiers (Union side lost 38% more than the Confederates’) vs. the losing side (Confederate 38% less than the Union) except the Civil War.

This statistic speaks volumes and cements the White Anglo-Saxon Protestant (WASP) male as making the greatest human sacrifice in the history of mankind. It also shows the resolution and resolve of America’s first Republican President Abraham Lincoln to do the right thing and to also fix once and for all the horrific cost of slavery that couldn’t be resolved in 1776 (which for a simplistic summary was a compromise between slave owning and non-slave owning states to form a more perfect union).

It was in fact far from a perfect union and an imperfect one for 89 years from 1776 to 1865, but it was still a major accomplishment in the history of mankind, then and now, that set America on its path to greatness and exceptionalism. Nonetheless, there would be lessons learned and civil rights movements to come to reach ”the promised land” and that “perfect” union and is still a work in progress.

Regardless, there is no historical equivalent to the sacrifice of the WASP male in any Asian, Indian, Middle Eastern, African, Eastern/Central/Southern European, Latin or Native American, or Native Australian experience. So as a WASP male I am profoundly troubled by the widespread belief of systemic racism that is without: 1) a single fact, 2) empirical evidence, or 3) confirmed hypotheses. Zero! Zip! Nada! Breakdown of the approximately 2.2 million Union soldiers:

• 1,000,000 (45.4 percent of all Union soldiers) native-born Americans of British ancestry.

• 516,000 (23.4 percent) Germans; about 216,000 were born in Germany.

• 210,000 (9.5 percent) African American. Half were freedmen who lived in the North, and half were ex-slaves or escaped slaves from the South. They served in more than 160 "colored" regiments. One such regiment, the 54th Massachusetts, is dramatized in the film Glory (A white officer valiantly dies leading his black regiment to battle and certain death. What a noble and brave sacrifice and wouldn’t it be touching to see a monument erected by the NAACP and BLM for this WASP leader and his proud and distinguished regiment?). Others served under white officers in Federal regiments organized as the United States Colored Troops (USCT).

• 200,000 (9.1 percent) Irish.

• 90,000 (4.1 percent) Dutch.

• 50,000 (2.3 percent) Canadian.

• 50,000 (2.3 percent) born in England.

• 40,000 (1.8 percent) French or French Canadian. About half were born in the United States of America, the other half in Quebec.

• 20,000 (0.9 percent) Scandinavian (Norwegian, Swedish, and Danish).

• 7,000 Italian

• 7,000 Jewish

• 6,000 Mexican

• 5,000 Polish (many of whom served in the Polish Legion of Brig. Gen. Włodzimierz Krzyżanowski)

• 4,000 Native Americans

• Several hundred of other various nationalities.

By comparison, the Confederate Army was not very diverse:

Almost 91 percent of Confederate soldiers were native born and only nine percent were foreign-born, Irish being the largest group with others including Germans, French, Mexicans (though most of them simply happened to have been born when the Southwest was still part of Mexico) and British. Some Southern propaganda compared foreign-born soldiers in the Union Army to the hated Hessians of the American Revolution. As well, a relatively small number of Native Americans (Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Creek) fought for the Confederacy.

At the conclusion of WW II, American armed forces consisted of White = 87.3%, Black = 11.0% and Other = 1.7% personnel and without their contribution, Germany would have prevailed in Europe and Japan in Asia. Both Germany and Japan had racial superiority motives, Aryan race for Germany’s and Yamato race for Japan’s. The chart from https://ourworldindata.org/world-population-growth shows the increasing number of people living on our planet over the last 12,000 years. A mind-boggling change: The world population today that is 1,860-times the size of what it was 12 millennia ago when the world population was around 4 million – half of the current population of London.

What is striking about this chart is of course that almost all of this growth happened just very recently. Historical demographers estimate that around the year 1800 the world population was only around 1 billion people. This implies that on average the population grew very slowly over this long time from 10,000 BCE to 1700 (by 0.04% annually). After 1800 this changed fundamentally: The world population was around 1 billion in the year 1800 and increased 7-fold since then.

What made the difference? The obvious answer for the recent population spike is the result of the many benefits of Western European culture. Over 99%, no exaggeration, of the benefits and wonders of the modern world we live in are from Western Europeans, with the bulk from WASP and Jewish males.

If you don’t believe it and desire to wax poetically about the good ‘ole days before the advent or contact with Western European civilization, go primitive camping for three days to see what it was like without modern conveniences. During those three days count the ways Western European’s influence and culture have benefited your life like no other’s.

This position is not a racial thing, it’s a culture thing, based on Judeo-Christian principles that allows most people of all races, religions, social strata, etc., to reach their full potential and the other foundation enabling all of this wealth and well-being (remember what little you can take or use while camping) is the economic success of free enterprise and capitalism. The leader of Western World is the United States and without it the world would be in a sad and dangerous place and your success here is what you make of it, ask former President Obama.

Hell yes, there are losses to be considered due to negative aspects of Western European culture (mostly due to war, disease, and colonization) but the ratio of benefit to deficit would still be at least 100:1. If you count the smallpox deaths introduced to Native Americans by Western Europeans then you need to do the same for the bubonic plague that decimated 50 million and 60% of Europe’s population that originated from Asia by way of the Mongols. Neither were intentional, so I wouldn’t count the deaths for each on the negative tally for any group but if you want to take that road consider the deaths by Genghis Khan around the same time in history that totaled as many as 40 million.

Stalin is an Eastern European, and Mussolini and Franco are both Southern Europeans. There is a difference! Western Europe by most accounts consists of the British Isles (England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales), France and the Low Countries (Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxemburg).

CONCLUSION

If you’re not aware of these common facts and well documented info you might be part of the problem that the SAPIENT Being is trying to fix and the WOWW Program is hoping to illuminate. Be honest and ask yourself if you fall into this unsapient group, how come you don’t know these things? Or perhaps, want to know these things? And if you do know these things, why would you ignore the 99% of good from WASP males and focus on the 1% bad? That’s an important why?

This definitive question by itself reveals more about you, and reminds me of the fickle finger of fate (finger pointing) saying of mine—that “today” (not 50 plus years ago where so many unsapients seem to be stuck in time) based on my sapient observations, most all of the people doing the finger pointing of racism “these days” have the other four fingers of hate, prejudice, bias, and ignorance pointing right back at them.

Please think about that before you respond irrationally—and if you do, please provide facts, empirical data, and proven hypotheses to support your position. Modern progressivism cannot contribute any rational arguments to our discussions when subjected to the scientific method—but please try if you want to. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion—but they’re not entitled to their own truth. The truth is the truth regardless of our external or internal differences and NO degree of intersectionality (as my biography proves) will change that.
